Section 1 — Opening

Most parents walk into IEP meetings unprepared.

Not because they don’t care — but because they don’t know what to prepare.

So they:

  • React instead of lead
  • Get overwhelmed by terminology
  • Leave unsure what was decided

Section 2 — The Real Problem

The issue isn’t the meeting.

It’s lack of structure going into it.

If you don’t define your child clearly, the system will define them for you.

Section 3 — What You Actually Need

There are two things that change everything:

1. A Strength Snapshot

  • What motivates your child
  • How they communicate
  • When they succeed

2. A Full Profile

  • Interests
  • Learning style
  • Social behavior
  • Support needs

This gives you leverage in the meeting.

Section 4 — What Happens Without This

Without preparation:

  • The conversation focuses only on struggles
  • You react instead of guide
  • Decisions are made without full context

Section 5 — What Happens With It

With preparation:

  • You anchor the conversation
  • You advocate clearly
  • You influence outcomes

You move from passive → strategic.

Section 6 — Get the Kit

If you want to go into your next IEP meeting prepared, use a structured system.

The IEP Preparation Strategy Kit includes:

  • Parent information-gathering checklist
  • IEP meeting prep checklist
  • Strength snapshot prompts
